Rachel Portman - Film Composer

Rachel Portman OBE is a British film composer. She was the first female composer to win an Academy Award in the category of Best Original Score for ‘Emma’ (1996).

Rachel Portman was nominated for an Academy Award for her score to ’The Cider House Rules’ (1999) and ‘Chocolat’ (2000). In 2007 Portman wrote the music ‘The Little Prince’ opera based on Antoine de Saint Exupery’s novella.The opera was later adapted for television and released on DVD.
